The Ceiriog Valley – famously described by Lloyd George as "a little piece of heaven on earth" – is the picturesque home of The West Arms, which has been an inn since 1670. With a hospitality history dating back nearly 350 years, this property still boasts shedloads of 16th-century charm. Set along the idyllic foothills of Berwyn Hills, it's a cosy bolthole with original timbered ceilings and an inglenook log fire. The Ceiriog Valley was , and there's no doubt why.

The restaurant has won multiple awards for its creative fare, including multiple recommendations in The Good Food Guide. Try everything from locally farmed Welsh beef to Ceiriog trout. Local real ales are perfectly poured in the bar, which features a large roaring fireplace. If you want to explore your surroundings, there are hoards of castles, waterfalls and walled cities. If you simply enjoy leisurely strolls, the valley offers hiking through woodlands, pastures, riverbanks, ancient trails and quaint hamlets.

Located in the 16th-century part of the hotel, King Character rooms are traditional in style with plenty of quirky features and views over the Berwyn Hills.

Opt for a suite for a characterful stay in the main building. The Bunny Warren suite features an unusual tri-level layout, which comprises a double bedroom on the third floor, a bathroom on the second floor, and a ground-floor lounge area with two sofas and plenty of original features, including wood beams and stone walls.
